Keystone provides Audit, Accounting, and Advisory Services in the areas of financial and administrative management, organizational and business improvement, program management support, budget support, financial analytical services and reconciliation, technology management and staff augmentation.

Keystone is looking for a Senior Director - Finance for one of our clients, a Non-For-Profit Health Care Provider in the Illinois Medical District. The organization is a teaching hospital that provides primary, specialty and tertiary healthcare services. The hospital has a staff of more than 300 attending physicians along with more than 400 medical residents and fellows.

Job Summary

This position reports directly to the CFO and is primarily responsible for assisting the Chief Financial Officer in developing and managing the Annual Operating and Capital budget of the Health system by working closely with Senior Leadership, Directors, Department Managers and others; and providing business support for operational efficiency of Operating Units including Management reporting, support analysis, net revenue analysis, productivity analysis, strategic initiatives, pro-forma and business case analysis as well as supervising the Cost & Reimbursement function.

Fiscal responsibility for this position is over $2billion with supervisory and leadership scope spanning several professional finance managers.

Required Qualifications

  • The Senior Director - Finance will be a key member of the financial leadership team and serve as an advisor to CFO and Senior leadership of Administrative, Clinical and Operating teams for the system.
  • This position is primarily responsible for directing the annual operating and capital budgeting process. As such, this position develops, analyzes, implements and monitors the operational & Capital budgets for the hospital system and its Affiliates.
  • The incumbent develops comprehensive long-range budgetary projections and assumptions to support strategic initiatives
  • Prepares the annual budget proposal for the health system Board.
  • Assesses and forecasts the financial impact of major policy, fiscal, and operational issues and initiatives.
  • Prepare reports and data request responses for internal customers, external industry groups and various government agencies including Cook County Budget Officer and /or County CFO
  • Prepare financial and management reports of health system hospital revenue and expenditures
  • This position is responsible for overseeing strategic and management initiatives related to governmental reimbursement including various supplemental revenue programs from third party payers
  • This position will work with State and Federal representatives to establish new programs and help determine the rates paid for these new programs
  • This position is expected to propose new models of reimbursement to address opportunities created by the evolving health care reform environment
  • This position will plan, direct, and organize operational financial support for five different entities, Cermak, ACHN, DPH, Stroger Hospital, and Provident Hospital as well as the Countycare plan. An over $2bil a year clinical enterprise.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • BS/BA degree in Accounting or Finance
  • A minimum of 10 years work experience, of which at least five must years’ supervisory, in finance or accounting experience in healthcare settings including strategic planning, financial planning and financial forecast/analysis modeling.
  • Proven ability to work with large amounts of data and develop financial models to drive business decisions.
  • Strong financial and business acumen.
  • Ability to think strategically.
  • Work requires capability to effectively provide financial planning leadership and counsel to the Health System’s senior leadership team.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and partner across the organization, appropriately advise and influence senior leadership from a financial perspective.
  • Use of judgement acquired through experience as a healthcare financial or accounting manager to set priorities for the department & staff, identify work requirements, assess & develop employee/team performance, continuously improve efficiency of department & organization and plan actions to ensure department & organizational goals are met.
  • Work requires a high degree of self-motivation to independently initiate & complete work and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Work requires appropriate application of financial analytical techniques & skills and effective application of broad healthcare business perspective to all engagement by “going beyond the numbers”.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Excel –Pivots etc., PowerPoint, and Word). Familiarity with Oracle ERP or like ERP/Financial Accounting or budgeting software, Familiarity with Siemens, Cerner or like Patient Financials Systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Healthcare Administration, and like degrees from accredited institutions
  • CPA, HFMA Certification, and/or ACHE Accreditation preferred.
  • Ten (10) years total healthcare accounting experience
  • Five (5) years total supervisory experience in a budgetary and/or financial planning capacity with a hospital or healthcare setting
