Job Description

Keystone Advisors is an independent certified public accounting firm licensed in the State of Illinois.

Keystone provides Audit, Accounting, and Advisory Services in the areas of financial and administrative management, organizational and business improvement, program management support, budget support, financial analytical services and reconciliation, technology management and staff augmentation.

Keystone is looking for a Controller for one of our clients, a Non-For-Profit Health Care Provider in the Illinois Medical District. The organization is a teaching hospital that provides primary, specialty and tertiary healthcare services. The hospital has a staff of more than 300 attending physicians along with more than 400 medical residents and fellows.

Job Summary

This is a contract position to fill in for the current Controller during a 12-week sabbatical.

The Controller reports directly to the CFO and will provide daily operational leadership and management expertise for financial operations of the health system.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Supervises Staff of Accounting professionals including CPAs, Budget Analyst and Payroll Administrators in preparation of the General Ledger and ensures that financial statements and special analysis reporting is prepared in an accurate and timely manner (monthly, quarterly, annually, and as needed).
  • Oversees and maintains ongoing compliance in payroll and accounts payable processes.
  • Oversees the approval and processing of expenditures, ledgers and account maintenance and data entry.
  • Prepares reports and data request responses for internal customers, external industry groups and various government agencies.
  • Prepares financial and management reports of health system hospital revenue and expenditures.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • BS/BA degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • A minimum of 10 years work experience, with at least five years as a Controller in a hospital or healthcare setting, supervising up to 75 direct and indirect reports.
  • Proven ability to work with large amounts of data and develop financial models to drive business decisions.
  • Strong financial and business acumen.
  • Ability to think strategically.
  • Work requires capability to effectively provide financial planning leadership and counsel to the Health System’s senior leadership team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Excel –Pivots etc., PowerPoint, and Word). Familiarity with Oracle ERP or like ERP/Financial Accounting or budgeting software, Familiarity with Siemens, Cerner or like Patient Financials Systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Healthcare Administration, and other related fields from accredited institutions
  • CPA, HFMA Certification, and/or ACHE Accreditation preferred.
  • Ten (10) years total healthcare accounting experience
  • Five (5) years total supervisory experience in a budgetary and/or financial planning capacity within a hospital or healthcare setting

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical skills, problem solving: Ability to define budgetary problems and recommend alternatives.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Mathematical skills: Strong budgetary, financial, and statistical expertise.
